Bob Vaughn
Managing Partner
I have been interested in wine from early adulthood. Air Force friends had been stationed in Germany and had some white bottled with the Squadron crest. It was quite good and much better than beer. After a period of exploring whites, an inauspicious entry into red wines was afforded via Lambrusco, a slightly effervescent Italian red. Over the years and with exposure to many varietals and regions, a true appreciation of and love for wine has developed. Along the way, I have rebelled against some of the over-oaked Napa Chardonnay in favor of Sauvignon Blanc and whites (including Chardonnays) from other countries. I discovered that Nebbiolo is my favorite grape though deep, dark brooding Cabs are always enjoyed. I generally like wines that punch me in the face and make me bleed better than “finesse” wines, though the elegance and aromas can be so exquisite that just smelling the wine is an experience. All of that says I enjoy wine, am not a connoisseur and prefer sharing my best bottles with family and friends. I like stories. I like people with stories. I like wine with stories too.
A few years ago, a friend invited me to invest in his label, Coup de Foudre, and the passion turned into investment. I thought about being in business with my grown children and their spouses, my bonus children, and wine seemed like a natural fit. LVTR was formed and we meet annually to visit, drink wine and discuss future investment plans. We have expanded our holdings, always looking for high quality wine and great partners.
I like stories… and this is mine!
Erin Vaughn DeLoach
Partner
Before investing in wines, Erin’s relationship with the wine industry was limited to tastings, pairings and visits to wineries throughout the world. She is thrilled to be able to use her affection for fine wines in her professional role as a fundraiser for a major university. Through this role, Erin had the opportunity to meet the Marchesa Bona Frescobaldi at her private palazzo in Florence and to attend a private tour and tasting at the Frescobaldi’s Nipozzano Castle, which is situated in the heart of the Chianti Rufina territory. Erin’s previous career as a television producer for a national news network allowed her the pleasure of producing several segments around wine and food pairings. Wine, thus, has been a thread that has extended throughout her adult life. Erin is currently pursuing a certificate course in wine production through Australia’s University of Adelaide to bolster her knowledge in what was previously a more casual, though deep, appreciation of wine.
Roger DeLoach
Partner
Graduating from The University of Georgia with a degree in finance, Roger now spends his days as a maritime broker in Annapolis, Maryland. During his free time, he enjoys trying new varietals of wine and savoring old favorites from various regions as well. Prior to his career in the maritime industry, Roger was the Head Golf Professional and Assistant General Manager for an Arnold Palmer managed golf club in Crofton, MD, which brought duties that included management of the food and beverage operation for the country club. It was here that Roger’s love of the hospitality industry, and eventually wine, was born. Over the years, he has visited Napa Valley and other wine locales and has participated in countless wine tastings, and has even tried his hand at blending wine. In 2014, Roger was able to marry his loves of golf and wine at the Cakebread Cup Golf Outing at Kiawah Island. He continues to expand his base of knowledge about wine by researching and, of course, tasting new wines.
Robby Vaughn
Partner
Robby’s interest in wine was kindled during his time spent in professional kitchens as a line cook and chef de partie. He began studying the subject of wine with greater focus in culinary school at Arizona Culinary Institute. Though he ultimately left the hospitality industry to pursue a degree in Geology and a career in the Energy Industry where he currently works as a Strategic Account Executive, his love of wine has remained a guiding interest in his life. He sits on the board of the Bailliage de l’Etoile Solitaire of the Chaîne des Rôtisseurs, acting as the Vice Conseiller Gastonomique. He holds the title of Professional du Vin in the Chaîne des Rôtisseurs organization, where he is also a member of the Société Modiale du Vin. He recently earned his Certified Specialist in Wine (CSW) and his French Wine Scholar (FWS) certifications from the Society of Wine Educators and the Wine Scholar Guild, respectively. He is continuing his wine journey with studying for his Certified Wine Educator certification with the SWE.
Christiann Boutwell Vaughn
Partner
Christiann’s wine journey had an auspicious beginning, with a bottle of Chateau d’Yquem 1996. She was immediately entranced with wine, and began trying more styles and varieties. Her boyfriend of the time was from the Piedmont region of Italy, so she made several trips there and was able to experience the wonderful wines of the Old World, a style which still registers truest for her palate. She first really dove into New World wines whilst a graduate student in Earthquake Seismology at USC in Los Angeles. She made numerous trips to the wine country, touring Napa and Sonoma extensively and tasting widely. She has developed a love of mountain and hillside Cabernet Sauvignon, being especially fond of the wines from Howell and Spring Mountains. She is excited to have the opportunity to support burgeoning wine businesses and enjoy the delicious fruits of their labors.
Zach Vaughn
Partner
Zach is first and foremost a storyteller. It is in fact his love of stories that provided the basis for Zach’s love of wine. Stories, like wines, are at their best when their roots occur organically and are then cultivated into something more magical. And Zach believes every bottle of wine has both a story to share and a story to create, with a different life adventure lurking just below each cork.
It is in search of those stories that has lead Zach’s life adventures to vineyards and tasting rooms all over the world, from Tuscany to Niagara on the Lake to Napa with plenty of points in between.
With an unpretentious palate that is just as pleased by a Mosel Riesling as a full-bodied Napa Cab, Zach opens every bottle with an expectation of greatness, a heart of gratitude, and an open ear, awaiting life’s next adventure.
